The Position:

The Communication Analyst will be based in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Under the overall leadership of the Representative, the Communication Analyst reports to the Assistant Representative.  

The Communication Analyst is responsible for the overall development, management and execution of the communication efforts of the CO.

Job Purpose:

The Communication Analyst will provide strategic guidance to

a) develop the UNFPA Kazakhstan Communication Strategy, implement and update the Strategy as required,

b) promote the work of UNFPA Kazakhstan among partners, international community, regional and local media,

c) promote internal communication in accordance with the Global Communication Strategy. 

 

You will represent UNFPA in Kazakhstan inter-agency communication and advocacy group and will contribute to the joint UN efforts in this area. 

You will a member of the regional (Eastern Europe and Central Asia) communication focal points and on a regular basis, would collaborate with the Regional Communication Advisor (RCA) on all strategic information in the context of the UNFPA country programme.

 

You would be responsible to:

  • Ensure the Country Office advocacy and communication strategy and related plan are updated and implemented.
  • Work closely with the UNFPA Country Office Programme Team and relevant partners to identify examples of impact and success stories related to UNFPA programmes in the country; proactively share the stories with national and international partners, UNFPA EECARO and the UNFPA Communication Branch as well as to national media and other national and international partners in the country.
  • Propose evidence and research-based processes, methods and approaches of using communication for promoting positive social norms, grounded in a sound understanding of socio-ecological contexts, including individual behaviours, collective group actions, social and cultural structures, and the enabling environment.
  • Prepare regular media advisories, press releases, social media content, advocacy materials/package and fact sheets on UNFPA’s work and messages in Kazakhstan in English, Russian and Kazakh and ensure their wide distribution to media networks and other relevant partners. 
  • Draft and compile content for the website and ensure it is updated on a regular basis.
  • Provide inputs to situation reports and newsletters, as required.
  • Develop a database, including a comprehensive mailing list of media, donors, national and international development partners, and ensure its update on a regular basis.
  • Organize awareness raising sessions for media introducing the organization's principal focus areas, and the country programme work in Kazakhstan.
  • Organize visibility events involving media representatives including press conferences, report launches, media breakfasts and media visits to project sites.
  • Maintain a photo database on UNFPA supported efforts in Kazakhstan and ensure the use of these photos for public information and advocacy products.
  • Lead the design and implementation of UNFPA advocacy campaigns with a focus on the promotion of positive social norms
  • Engage and maintain relationships with influencers, bloggers, spokespersons, etc.
  • Prepare talking points and information briefs as required for the Representative, Assistant Representative and other Programme Officers.
  • Monitor media coverage on UNFPA’s work in the country.
  • Represent UNFPA in the UN Communication Working Group and other related groups as relevant, ensuring UNFPA messages are reflected in joint campaigns.
  • Ensure visibility and communication budget in all new projects submitted to donors, proactively work with UNFPA CO programme staff and develop innovative communication campaigns with strong donor visibility.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor and/or Representative.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

Education: 

 

Advanced degree (Masters level) in Communication and Global Development, Journalism, Social Sciences, Marketing, Public Relations or an equivalent University degree that is directly relevant to UNFPA’s mandate.

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 Years of relevant experience preferably with some experience in an international organization.
  • Excellent knowledge of media and media relations.
  • Proven team player with excellent inter-personal communication skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communications and editing skills in English, Russian and Kazakh;
  • A thorough understanding of the UN system in general, and most particularly of UNFPA mandate, its policies and operations and current development topics and political issues;
  • Ability to work well under deadline; keen understanding of the country’s culture, history and political context; familiarity with or knowledge of communication approaches in strategic planning, development, execution, and M&E; computer literacy is must.
  • Experience in webpage updating and in writing newsletters

 

Languages:

Fluency in written and spoken English, Russian and Kazakh
