The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is seeking a highly qualified international expert to coordinate and facilitate a pivotal two-day regional workshop focused on addressing discriminatory gender social norms in Central Asia. This workshop, taking place in [City, Country], will bring together key stakeholders from five countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. Participants will include government representatives, civil society organizations, and gender equality advocates.

Background:

Gender equality remains a significant challenge in Central Asia, where deeply ingrained cultural traditions and social norms perpetuate discrimination against women and girls. This discrimination manifests in various forms, including limited access to education and employment opportunities, gender-based violence, and early and forced marriages. UNFPA is committed to supporting governments and civil society in their efforts to address these issues and promote gender equality.

Purpose of the Workshop:

This regional workshop will serve as a platform for:

  • Knowledge sharing: Participants will share experiences, best practices, and lessons learned in addressing discriminatory gender social norms.
  • Capacity building: The workshop will enhance participants' understanding of gender equality concepts, international frameworks, and effective strategies for promoting social norm change.
  • Collaboration: The workshop will foster collaboration and networking among stakeholders from different countries and sectors.
  • Action planning: Participants will collaboratively develop action plans for addressing discriminatory gender social norms at the national and regional levels.

Responsibilities of the Expert:

The International Expert will be responsible for:

  • Workshop design and development: Develop the workshop agenda, content, and methodology in consultation with UNFPA and key partners.
  • Facilitation and coordination: Facilitate interactive sessions, group discussions, and experience sharing activities.
  • Technical expertise: Provide technical guidance and expertise on gender equality, social norms, and related issues.
  • Report writing: Prepare a comprehensive workshop report, including key findings, recommendations, and action points.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in social sciences, gender studies, human rights, or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in gender equality programming, with a focus on social norms and behavior change.
  • Strong understanding of the Central Asian context and familiarity with regional gender equality challenges.
  • Proven experience in designing and facilitating workshops and training programs.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
  • Fluency in English and Russian is required.
