On the 17th of July Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Gulshara Abdykalikova had a meeting with the Representative of UNFPA for Kazakhstan and Country Director for Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan  Giulia Vallese, - reports KazInform.

Deputy Prime Minister noted the high level of cooperation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and UNFPA. Active participation of the organization in promoting safe motherhood, reproductive health, prevention of HIV and AIDS and tuberculosis, promoting gender equality and preventing domestic violence has helped achieve significant successes in these areas.

Gulshara Abdykalikova also emphasized that UNFPA is a reliable partner of the National Commission for Women, Family and Demographic Policy under President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with which it has successfully conducted a number of projects and surveys.

2019 is declared the Year of Youth in Kazakhstan, with special attention being paid to the protection and strengthening of reproductive health of youth. Deputy Prime Minister expressed gratitude for UNFPA’s efforts in this area.

The Summit in Nairobi (Kenya) marking 25 years since the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) has been discussed during the meeting.  The Summit’s goal is to create political and financial momentum to advance the ICPD agenda, in particular around reducing preventable maternal mortality, unmet need for family planning and eliminating violence against women.  Giulia Vallese invited Kazakhstan’s delegation to participate and share experience in the Summit because Kazakhstan has good examples of demonstrating political commitments in healthcare, support for youth and ensuring equal rights and opportunities of men and women.

Deputy Prime Minister Gulshara Abdykalikova thanked UNFPA Representative for Kazakhstan Giulia Vallese for the fruitful work in Kazakhstan and wished further successes.
