Over 30 years of independence, Kazakhstanis gave birth more and live longer, indicating that quality of life has enhanced and life expectancy extended.

But at the same time, since 2010, the share of the work-age population has been decreasing, and the demographic burden on those who work is increasing: Last year this figure was 692 to 1000 people.

But what if unemployment and lower incomes will “knock down” the workers and the state even further – the state from which everyone expects help in times of difficulties?

The question is answered by financial specialist Rasul Rysmambetov.

How is Kazakhstan’s economy developing amid high birth rates and growing poverty?

The poverty rate in 2018 was 4.3%. Moreover, about a third of the country's poor population lives in the Turkestan region. On top of that, COVID-19 has left millions of people unemployed, which is already affecting the income and the mood of society. Meanwhile, we often hear about the need to "increase the population of Kazakhstan".

Economist Aydarkhan Kusainov answers the question of what changes are already taking place in Kazakhstan’s economy and what kind of reality the country will be entering after the pandemic.

#WeKazakhstan: How to maintain the quality of life of the population amid a high birth rate?

According to UN forecasts, 25 million people will live in Kazakhstan by 2050. But does an increase in population always mean an increase in the quality of life of the population?

In addition, 58.2% of Kazakhstan’s citizens live in cities where they are exposed to urban stress while trying to find a better place for themselves and their families.

How should we consciously approach family planning and what should we think about today when speaking about high fertility in the context of this situation?

Psychotherapist Zhybek Zholdasova answers the question.

Why does every third marriage in Kazakhstan end up with divorce?

Family values are not alien to Kazakhstan citizens however 40% of marriages in our country fall apart. The most interesting thing is that people born in the 1960th and 1970th are more likely to break up or get divorced . Thus, more than 85% of our citizens consider that if a husband and a wife are not happy in a marriage, even their children cannot save them from divorce.

Why is there such a mismatch of standards in our community? Would it be true to say that words in public and deeds in real life of Kazakhstan citizens do not correspond?
We asked sociologist Gulmira Ileuova the important questions about families and divorces.

Who and how one should fight against violence against women?

Kazakhstan’s women are active in business, lead large teams, receive a good education, and still face physical and sexual violence. And those women who could not get a higher education or have a disability are worse off.

Early marriages still take place  in the country. Minor girls find themselves in a position when their parents force them to become a wife. They are highly dependent on their spouse and don’t get a full education, which makes them vulnerable to poverty and violence.

Over the past couple of years, we have started to pay more attention to all these problems, but is this enough to eradicate violence? Akmarzhan Kusherbaeva, singer, activist and UNFPA speaker in Kazakhstan, answers questions about violence against women.
