Starting from 2019 the UNFPA with financial assistance from the UK Government implementing the regional project “Strengthening prevention and response to violence against women and girls in Central Asia”. Funded by the UK Conflict Stability and Security fund the project’s overall objective is to support the five Central Asian (CA) governments' efforts to prevent and respond to Gender-Based Violence (GVB) in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

 

Job Purpose:

The Project Coordinator will play an instrumental role in facilitating regional project in the areas of gender equality, prevention of gender based violence, changing social norms.

Project Coordinator will apply established systems and procedures and support in the creation of knowledge by compiling, synthesizing and analyzing relevant information, developing appropriate mechanisms and systems and ensuring compliance with procedures.

 

You would be responsible for:

 

Provide technical support to the implementation and management of the project:  

 

  • Provide inputs to the development of annual workplan and budget;
  • Coordinate and monitor the implementation of project activities;
  • Review and coordinate the submission of inputs into the financial and narrative reports on quarterly/annual basis;
  • Provide quality and timely guidance in formulation, design, implementation of project activities;
  • Coordination of the planned events of the project;
  • Provide full support and coordination in preparation of regional events related to the area of responsibility;
  • Keep close relationships with UK CSS fund and UK embassy in Uzbekistan to ensure regular update on the project implementation progress, invitation to the important events of the project, etc.

Provide technical assistance and capacity development support to project partners:

  • Facilitate collection of good practices, success stories of the project.
  • Support exchange of experience between CA countries implementing the project
  • Coordinate technical workshops and webinars; facilitate workshop sessions;
  • Develop stakeholders’ capacity and provide a forum for exchanging experiences;
  • Consolidate lessons learned and key outcomes of workshops and webinars;
  • Analyze emerging needs and provide suggestions for technical follow up;
  • Identify opportunities for capacity building of partners;
  • Coordinates collection of inputs from 5 Central Asian countries for quarterly reports, donor reports and other reports on outputs, results outputs and outcomes;
  • Analyze and appraise incoming documents, draft statements, talking points, correspondence, and briefing notes on the project and operational issues;
  • Review documents to ensure quality and relevance to subject and themes;
  • Elaborate inputs to the annual and other reports.
  • Keep close relationships with UK CSS fund and UK embassy in Uzbekistan to ensure regular update on the project implementation progress, invitation to the important events of the project, etc
  • Contribute to building partnerships, advocacy and resource mobilization efforts resource mobilization strategies
  • Provide inputs to resource mobilization strategies; analyze and maintain information and databases;
  • Provide inputs to relevant documentation such as project summaries, conference papers, briefing;
  • notes, speeches, and donor profiles.
  • Support in establishing and maintaining a network of donor and public information contacts
  • Support with organizing and conducting donor meetings and public information events, including preparing relevant background material for these events

 

Qualifications and Experience

Education:  

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, human rights, gender/ women’s studies, international development, or a related field is required;
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree;
  • A project/programme management certification would be an added advantage.

 

Knowledge and Experience: 

 

  • At least 5 year of relevant work experience in development programme/project implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting and capacity building;
  • Experience of managing multi-stakeholder development programmes is an advantage;
  • Experience coordinating and liaising with government agencies and/or donors is an asset;
  • Experience in managing programmes related with addressing SGBV and harmful practices would be considered as an asset
  • Familiarity with UN development programmes and working methods, and particularly with UNFPA policies and programming procedures, desirable;
  • Knowledge and experience in data/statistics collection, analysis and presentation;
  • Good knowledge of key concepts and global and regional commitments related to gender equality, empowerment of women and girls, ending violence against women and harmful practices, their impacts on health and realization of SRHR.
  • Good knowledge of CA regional context related to the SGBV and gender equality.    

Languages: 

  • Fluency in English and Russian is required;
  • Knowledge of another UN official working language is an asset.
